Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’m in crisis and need immediate help?
Although I care deeply about your wellbeing and provide support, it is beyond my scope to provide emergency crisis intervention. Please call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room if you are experiencing a medical or a mental crisis. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis and would like to talk to someone immediately, please call 988 - volunteers are available there 24/7.
– Suicide and Crisis Hotline: Text or call 988
– Crisis Text Line: Text “HOME” to 741-741
– LGBTQ+ Crisis Support (The Trevor Project): Call 1-866-488-7386 or text 678-678
How much do sessions cost?
A 50- minute routine psychotherapy session is $150 *. I retain a limited number of sliding-scale slots in order to make therapy more affordable for individuals who need a reduced fee. Please let me know if you need this assistance. Full payment (or copay) is due at the time of service.
Do you take insurance?
There are several ways that I work with insurance:
I am able to bill directly Premera, LifeWise, and most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. I will assist you in verifying your insurance benefits in advance to make sure that it's a plan that I'm in-network with.
If you have coverage from other insurance companies not listed above, I am considered an out-of-network provider. For these cases, I can provide a monthly superbill that you may send to your insurance for reimbursement. This means that you would first need to pay me for your sessions in full, then once a month I will send you a PDF of the sessions you paid for which then you can send to your insurance company for what is referred to as Out-of-Network (OON) benefits. Some insurance companies reimburse either a partial or full amount paid out of pocket, however, some do not participate in OON. Please check with your insurance carrier prior to your first appointment to learn what your OON benefits may be.
Do you work with children, teens, couples, or families?
Currently, I only work with individual adults 18+.
Do you offer in-person or online sessions?
I have an office in Burlington where I am able to see clients in person. I also offer online virtual visits which are HIPAA compliant (safe, secure, and private).
How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?
An hourly session equates to a 50 - minute duration session once a week or every other week. One exception is EMDR therapy which typically runs anywhere between 50 and 90 minutes. It is most effective on a weekly basis, and therefore, requires the weekly commitment. We can discuss which option(s) work best for you in the consultation session.
Is therapy confidential?
Therapy is confidential, however, there are limits, which means confidentiality MUST be broken in these situations.
These are some EXCEPTIONS AND LIMITS to confidentiality:
If you're seriously considering suicide. Action on my part is not called for if you are simply sharing about suicidal ideation. In the case that you are seriously considering suicide, we would first talk about it and our possible next steps to help you get better. There will be no surprises…
If you’re seriously considering harming someone else. This may include knowledge that a client is HIV positive but is not willing to inform others with whom he/she is intimately involved.
As a therapist I am a mandated reporter which means that I must report any suspicion or disclosure of abuse, neglect, or exploitation involving vulnerable populations such as children, elderly adults, and individuals with disabilities.
Court Orders or Legal Subpoenas – If a court orders me to release records or testify, I may be legally required to comply.
Consent to Share Information – If you give written consent, only then will I share information with your doctor, school, or another therapist. This option is always optional and revocable at any time.
Supervision – Currently, I am under supervision, which means that I share details about your case with my supervisor — but I still protect your privacy and anonymity.
Other Considerations – Payment by check permits bank employees to view the names of my clients, and if you have caller identification on your phone, my name may appear on your monitor.
To further maintain your anonymity and privacy (you may not want your friends or acquaintances to know that you are in therapy, and we live in a small community), we can discuss how you would like to manage any chance interactions that may occur in the community.
What is your cancellation policy?
Session cancellations require 2-way communication with greater than 24 hours notice, otherwise the client will be responsible for the full amount.
What is your lateness policy?
If you are 15 minutes late, I consider it a missed session, and will bill accordingly, unless there is an emergency or prior communication.
How do you safeguard my personal information?
I have an ethical and legal duty to protect your personal health information. The only information that I will obtain about you is the information that you explicitly and voluntarily supply for therapeutic and communication purposes. I will not give, sell or transfer any personal information to a third party, unless I am required to do so by applicable law or a court (please see above: Court Orders and Legal Subpoenas). Please visit my Privacy Policy if you would like to understand fully how this information is used and protected as a participant in therapy.
